The biggest musical booking season of the year
Town festivities (fiestas patronales) concentrate most of Spain's live music hiring: every municipality celebrates its patron saint with verbenas, concerts and street parades, and the festivity committee or council programmes several consecutive days of live music. For many artists and orchestras, the June-to-September season is the bulk of their annual calendar.
How the music programme comes together
A balanced line-up usually combines three pieces: a headline concert with a well-known artist, a verbena orchestra for the long night, and street entertainment such as charangas or street parades. Artists with national pull — like Melody, whose demand soared after Eurovision — headline town festivities across Spain, and their summer dates close many months in advance.
