The music that moves the street
The charanga is a roaming wind-and-percussion ensemble — trumpets, saxophones, trombones, bass drum and snare — that livens up the street with no need for a stage or a sound system. Its repertoire mixes pasodobles, festive anthems and popular covers, and its strength is interaction: it walks with the crowd, stops at the peñas, and turns any route into a party.
Where a charanga fits
It is essential at town festivities, bull runs, carnivals and farewell parties, and increasingly common at weddings as the cocktail-hour surprise. With no technical production to depend on, it is one of the easiest formats to programme: just agree the parade route, the sets (45-60 minutes each is standard) and the breaks.
