Dixie Rue del Percebe brings New Orleans Dixieland to the street and stage with live music and lively audience engagement.
Dixie Rue del Percebe performs live music inspired by New Orleans Dixieland and the popular sounds of the 1920s. With a street-band spirit, the show brings the early roots of jazz to audiences in outdoor spaces and on stage.
The band began in 1997, arising from the Asociación Cultural Jaby & Ensemble and its interest in composing, performing and improvising Dixieland music. It has since played more than 1,200 shows across Spain and Europe, presenting the style in an engaging, accessible way for audiences of all ages.
The musicians play trumpet, trombone, clarinet, tuba, drums, electric guitar and banjo. Some formats also feature actors. Options include DIXIELANDIA, NEW ORLEANS CIRCUS, DIXIALOGANDO, a Dixieland concert and a street show. The set list includes standards such as “Basin Street Blues”, “Hello Dolly”, “The Sheik of Araby” and “When the Saints Go Marching In”. Its influences include American Dixieland, blues and Charleston.
The group can perform at town festivals, street events, jazz festivals, indoor concerts, drinks receptions, formal functions and school programmes. It has also taken part in artistic productions and television programmes.
