Traditional New Orleans jazz in an acoustic quartet or a voice-and-guitar duo.
Dixie Cream Jazz Band play traditional jazz in an acoustic quartet featuring lead vocals, banjo, saxophone and tuba. Their sound draws on New Orleans jazz and suits concerts, drinks receptions and background sets where guests can still talk comfortably. Based in Madrid, they travel to any province in Spain.
The regular line-up is Pilar Gual on vocals, Luis Bomati on jazz banjo, Alejandro Pérez on saxophone and Jose Luis Martín on tuba. The band can add trombone, clarinet, trumpet, further saxophones or percussion. For smaller events, Dixie Cream Jazz Duo offers vocals and electric guitar. Many sets can be performed without instrument amplification, with discreet vocal amplification where needed.
The set list brings together traditional jazz standards and familiar songs from films and musicals, including “When the Saints Go Marching In”, “Hello, Dolly!” and “The Bare Necessities”. The musicians improvise, including vocal scat, while keeping the sound measured and melodic. Members have experience in the Madrid jazz scene, recordings and musicals such as Cabaret, Chicago, Cats and West Side Story.
The group is suited to weddings, drinks receptions, corporate functions, themed parties, concerts and social events. Their clothing is tailored to the occasion. For performances requiring a full sound system, the band can work to its technical rider and provide suitable solutions.
