Batucada Ondina, also known as Bloco Ondina, is a samba afro group based around Guadalajara and Madrid. With more than 20 years’ experience in Brazilian percussion, it offers several ways to bring its rhythms to different audiences and venues.
The group performs street processions and concerts, provides shows in schools and runs Brazilian percussion workshops. For businesses, it offers team-building workshops; sound is required for corporate workshops with more than 200 participants. For other performances, the group brings its own equipment and can play while moving or in a mobile format, provided there is space to perform.
The music draws on Afro-Bahian rhythms and the traditions of Salvador da Bahia, including samba-reggae, samba-merengue, swingueira and swing. «Magalenha» (baiao) is also named among its rhythms. Influences include Olodum, Timbalada, Ile Aye, Muzenza and Carlinhos Brown.
Director Alvar Grijelmo has studied with musicians from Bahia, including Memeu Nuñez, Jair Rezende and Pathinho Correiga. He has led Bloco Dum Dum, Fortaleza and Los Repicantes, and performed with Huecco, Alcohol Jazz and La Cantine Boga. The group has worked at festivals and corporate events for over two decades, including events for Coca-Cola, MásMóvil and Johnson & Johnson.
