Seydina Mboup presents a taste of Senegalese music through singing and percussion. Born in Dakar, he grew up in Louga in a griot family, where oral storytelling, music and dance carry history from one generation to the next. From a young age, he sang and played the sabar at home and in the street.
His career includes founding Daray Mademba, a folk music project, and performing with groups such as Gnalam and the Louga Youth Circle. He later joined Livika as a singer and percussionist, playing dum-dum, sabar and Brazilian surdo. In 2008 he composed original material for his album «Arte».
His work brings Senegalese music into percussion and fusion projects. He contributed to Calima’s «Paso a Paso» and Camilo Masilva’s «Cumbia Lavapiés», and has worked with groups including Chocolatinos, Sanou Africa, Sico Banna Africa and Secuturê. He also had the opportunity to sing live with Orchestra Baobab, his father’s group.
African percussion can suit parties, cultural events and celebrations looking to include music from Senegal. For weddings, corporate functions or private events, share the programme details to discuss the right format.
