Improcafe turns audience suggestions into improvised comic theatre, shaping a different show with every performance.
Improcafe builds comic scenes from ideas shared by the audience. The premise follows three café workers who have had enough of the daily routine and decide to serve up coffees filled with outlandish stories. It gives the performers a playful starting point for a piece of theatre that unfolds in the room.
The format is based on improvisation, attentive listening and audience interaction. Suggestions are stretched into imaginative, sometimes absurd situations, while the actors connect them into a story with a sense of continuity. The cast includes Teban Arroyo, Jorge López, Isa Aulló, Noel León and Javi Palomino, with Nico Arranz as technician. The show can be tailored to suit different occasions and has no prior requirements.
There is no fixed set list: the material takes shape through the exchange between performers and guests, so each performance develops differently. Improcafe has played three seasons at La Escalera de Jacob in Madrid’s Lavapiés district, with more than 3,000 people attending.
