A voice and piano duo performing Catalan and Cuban songs, from boleros to rumba, alongside Latin American repertoire.
Dúo Cantares brings together singer Elizabeth Díaz Marcheco and pianist Daniela García Leite. Their voice and piano format centres on Catalan and Cuban songs, performed in their original languages. The project began in Barcelona in 2021 and has performed concerts at the Spaiku Art Gallery in the city.
The programme moves through several styles, from Cuban boleros to rumba, alongside Catalan songs with varied sounds and traditions. It includes pieces such as “Siboney”, “Contigo en la distancia”, “La Gavina”, “Yolanda”, “Paraules d'amor”, “Lágrimas negras” and “Guantanamera”. Their musical references include Silvia Pérez Cruz, Joan Manuel Serrat, Pablo Milanés, Mercedes Sosa, Maria del Mar Bonet and Buena Vista Social Club. The duo continues to develop its repertoire and has made recordings of some of its songs.
This live format can work well for concerts, cultural gatherings and celebrations looking for an intimate musical performance. It may suit weddings, private events and corporate occasions where Catalan and Cuban songs for voice and piano fit the programme.
