José Soto Cortés, known professionally as Tijeritas, is a flamenco pop singer whose performing career began in tablaos at the age of eight. At 18, he made his debut at Los Canasteros in Madrid. He later recorded his first album, «Pegaso que tiene alas», produced by Miguel Ángel Arenas, known as Capi.
A flamenco pop performance
His music brings a pop approach to flamenco influences. Audiences may recognise «Del sur a Cataluña», the song behind the well-known «ay, garabí» refrain, as well as «Libre Soy», «La princesa de Ceilán», «Se tiene que ir» and «Yo la quería». His career includes 22 albums. He can perform with Luis Monje, Camarón’s son, and other flamenco musicians.
