Samuele Arba's theatre-song performance pairs nine songs and five dream-themed monologues with a Gipsy Jazz quartet.
Samuele Arba presents this theatre-song performance with a Gipsy Jazz quartet. Songs and monologues about dreams come together in a story inspired by The Spoon River Anthology, set among the characters of an imagined village cemetery.
The performance is arranged in two parts, with nine songs and five spoken monologues. The monologues connect the songs and develop a narrative in which the characters reveal their thoughts from beyond the grave. Music and spoken theatre work together to carry the story from one piece to the next.
Samuele Arba performs on guitar and vocals. He is joined by Georgi Olshanetsky on jazz guitar, Norman Pena on manouche guitar, Olegario Velazquez on double bass, and Samuel Garcia on violin and trumpet. The show is available in Spanish, Catalan and Italian.
The performance presents a Catalan edition, with translated lyrics and new arrangements, of an album by Italian singer-songwriter F. De Andrè, first released in 1971. Its influences include F. De Andrè, Django Reinhardt and G. Gaber. The listed pieces include “La colina”, “Frank Drummer”, “El Juez Selah Lively” and “Fiddler Jones”, alongside the dream monologues.
With music and theatre in one format, the performance can suit cultural programmes, stage events and private occasions looking for a narrative live show.
