An acoustic quartet for gypsy jazz, swing and more, with a broad, adaptable repertoire and the option to suggest pieces.
Stranger Swing is an acoustic quartet of professional musicians centred on gypsy jazz. Their sound draws on Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli, bringing together American swing, a Romani influence and French elegance. The group can tailor its format and musical selection to suit each occasion.
The quartet features double bass, two guitars and violin, and can also perform with vocals. Virtuosic playing creates an acoustic atmosphere that can feel both refined and wistful. The group has its own sound equipment, amplification and mixing desk, and requires a power socket.
The repertoire includes Django Reinhardt classics and jazz, alongside swing, bossa nova, funk, pop, tango, Latin jazz, boleros and classical music. It is broad enough to accommodate suggested pieces for an event. Other influences include John Coltrane, The Beatles and Ella Fitzgerald.
The quartet suits weddings, private celebrations and corporate events. It can provide live music for a particular part of the occasion or help set the tone throughout a gathering. Its flexible selection and acoustic sound can be shaped around the atmosphere you have in mind.
