An eight-piece group brings Spanish and Latin favourites, from boleros and rumba to cumbia and dance rhythms.
Son de Lapiti are an eight-piece group performing Spanish and Latin popular music. The members have experience in university tuna groups, plucked-string ensembles, flamenco groups and orchestras. Their line-up features lead vocals and backing harmonies, and they bring their own sound equipment, which is suitable for outdoor performances too.
The ensemble combines electric bass, guitars, laúd, bandurrias and varied percussion, including bongos, congas, cymbals, tambourine and snare. All eight members sing. Their equipment includes a mixing desk, cabling and speakers; a 220 V power supply is required at the venue.
The set can create a laid-back atmosphere with boleros, ballads and instrumental pieces, then move into dance-friendly music. Styles include cha-cha-cha, cumbia, pop, rumba, copla and pasodobles, alongside tribute songs from Spanish and Latin popular music dating from the 1960s onwards. Their influences include Joaquín Sabina, Los Panchos, Luis Miguel, Raphael, Andrés Calamaro, José Alfredo Jiménez, Benny Moré, Compay Segundo and Carlos Cano.
The range of styles makes Son de Lapiti a good fit for parties, concerts, weddings, town celebrations and private or corporate events. The music can provide a gentle backdrop or encourage guests onto the dance floor.
