Classical oriental dance, Arabic folklore and fusion styles, with an optional participatory class.
Sahra Hayal is an oriental dancer, choreographer and teacher. Her performance draws on several styles and can invite audience participation. For weddings, she offers a candlelit entrance to the banquet, a ritual associated with Arab weddings in which the light represents the couple’s path to happiness. Costume colours can be matched to the ceremony, bridesmaids or décor.
The show can be followed by a class where guests learn basic oriental dance steps. The recommended format is a 20-minute performance followed by a one-hour class. Organisers can also ask about including a particular song, and there is an option to add more dancers.
The repertoire covers classical oriental dance, Arabic folklore such as saidi, khallegy, baladi, shaabi and eskandarani, and fantasy pieces featuring Isis wings, a veil, sword, candle tray or silk fans. Fusion styles include salsa, flamenco, samba and bolero, and a LED show is also available. Since 2015, Sahra has been part of Tito Seif’s Al-Ahram ballet. She also performs in the duo Leil&Nahar with Jezabel González.
The act suits weddings, parties and special occasions. It requires performance space, somewhere to change and a sound system; costume is provided as part of the show.
