Malavara pair danceable swing and traditional jazz with boleros and original songs, in formats ranging from duo to quintet.
Malavara are a jazz group founded in 2020, with connections between Argentina and Spain. They have been part of the music scenes in Buenos Aires and Burgos, playing fairs, village events, swing and jazz festivals, corporate functions and private celebrations. Their show puts danceable swing at its heart and is designed to appeal to audiences of all ages.
Options range from a duo to a quartet or quintet. Malavara can also perform as a roaming group, present an educational show with film projections, or pair jazz standards with a live watercolour artist. A separate line-up is available for social dancing and lindy hop festivals. The duo features Claudia Costa García on vocals and tenor guitar, and Joel Lescano on vocals and washboard.
The repertoire draws on well-known swing and jazz classics, alongside original songs about everyday life in Burgos and classic boleros arranged with a swing feel. The music can set up a dance floor or introduce audiences to jazz in an engaging, educational format.
