A solo dance show blending Afro-Caribbean styles, cabaret, samba and audience participation for events and celebrations.
Kukita is the stage name of Cuban dancer, choreographer and entertainer Ines María Soto Montero. Her solo show, “El Caribe soy yo”, is made up of three sections, moving through several dance styles and allowing a choice of finale to suit the event.
She trained in modern and contemporary dance at Cuba’s Escuela Vocacional de Arte and Escuela Nacional de Arte. Her work has included the Yoldance performance company and fashion house La Maison, as well as shows for RAI and Italian television. She has also created and performed hundreds of solo productions and worked alongside Cuban, Italian and Brazilian dancers.
The opening section features Afro-Caribbean dances and ends with Cuban-style salsa. A burlesque number follows, drawing on Cuban and North American cabaret. For the final section, organisers can choose samba or Latin dance entertainment that invites the audience to join in. The participatory option can be presented in Spanish or Italian.
The performance draws on Cuban dance training, Afro-Cuban folklore, cabaret and musical theatre. Several dance genres appear within one show. Kukita also brings an educational element to the dancing, sharing technique and cultural context with the audience.
