KARY-mag is the stage name of Carles, whose show, “La ilusión hecha realidad”, brings together visual illusion, music and humour. Everyday moments turn into surprising effects, with the audience invited to take part. The performance can be tailored to different ages and settings, from intimate family gatherings to larger crowds.
There are three ways to present the act. Close-up magic brings the tricks within arm’s reach of a small group and suits parties or other gatherings. Parlour magic is a lively, participative show for weddings, communions and birthdays. The stage format is designed for larger events, including local festivals and schools.
Carles began working in the performing arts in the 1980s, initially creating children’s shows that mixed songs with guitar, juggling, balancing and magic. He later joined a Catalan rock band with its own original repertoire. He also worked in children’s leisure activities at a residential activity centre before focusing his performance work on illusion.
The setup includes 400 W sound equipment, wireless microphones and a 3 × 3 m backdrop. A smoke machine, projector and screen may be used depending on the show. The venue needs a 220 V power supply and a stage or platform measuring at least 3 × 4 m; artificial lighting is needed when required.
